Testing, inspection and maintenance of guardrails and fixed ladders
Access Testing and inspection for free-standing / fixed guardrail and fixed ladders.
It is essential that fixed ladders and guardrails are kept in good condition, and the best way to achieve this is have them inspected at regular intervals by a ‘competent person’. Access Testing can provide a full preventative planned maintenance regime for fixed ladders and guardrails, keeping the client compliant with statutory requirements and manufacturers recommendations.
Our inspection regime for fixed ladders includes firstly checking that the ladder installation and design complies fully with BS 4211:2005 and BS 14122-3. We also check the integrity of all support brackets and fixings, check whether there is safe access to and onto the ladder, and whether warning signs are in place.
Periodic inspections of equipment preventing falls from height by a competent person are required under Regulation 5 of the Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and BS EN 395. Our guardrail PPM inspection regime includes an initial check for general conformity, and also detailed inspection of all system fixings and component parts. Following our inspection, a certificate is issued to the client along with a full report detailing any defects and remedial works required to bring the equipment into compliance. We will also make recommendations regarding possible improvements to the equipment and overall height safety strategy where we feel this will benefit our client.
